How to Make Popsicles using Herbal Tea

Making popsicles with herbal tea follows the same process as making any homemade popsicle. You start with the desired liquid, pour it into a mold, and freeze. It is a very easy process and anyone can master. That being said, there are always tips and recipes that can make the process easier and tastier.

There are many different types of molds that can be used to make your popsicles. Commercial molds range from simple plastic molds to fancy shaped molds. Some even have a built in drip tray while others go a step further and have a straw built into the drip tray. These make for less mess and less waste.

Don’t despair if you do not have molds for your homemade popsicles. Simple disposable cups and craft sticks work just as well. Just fill the cup and cover with foil or plastic wrap. Cut a small hole in the center of the wrap and put in the freezer for an hour. Once the popsicles are partially frozen insert a wooden stick through the hole in the wrap and put back in the freezer. When the popsicles are ready to eat briefly run the cup under hot water to loosen the popsicle from the mold.

There are many different recipes available for making popsicles from herbal teas.

Basic tea popsicle recipe:

Ingredients:

3 tea bags of your favorite blend
3 tablespoons sugar
10 ounces of water

Directions:

1. Steep tea bags in 10 ounces of hot water for 3 minutes.
2. Dissolve sugar into tea.
3. Allow tea to cool.
4. Pour into popsicle molds of your choice.
5. Freeze.
6. Enjoy.

If you prefer an unsweetened popsicle simply do not add the sugar.

I don’t know about you, but I very rarely do anything basic in the kitchen. I like to jazz things up a bit with my recipes and making popsicles is no exception to that rule. Two of my favorite tea popsicle recipes are:

Citrus raspberry tea popsicles

Ingredients:

3 teabags of raspberry herbal tea
Juice of 1 large lemon
1 1/2 tablespoons of brown sugar
1 clove
10 ounces water

Directions:

1. Steep tea bags in 10 ounces of hot water for 3 minutes.
2. Dissolve brown sugar into tea.
3. Add the juice of 1 large lemon. (If you prefer a sweeter tea an orange could be used instead.)
4. Add the clove.
5. Allow tea to cool.
6. Remove the clove.
7. Pour into popsicle molds of your choice.
8. Freeze.
9. Enjoy.

Blueberry pomegranate tea popsicles:

Ingredients:

3 teabags of pomegranate herbal tea
1/2 cup blueberry juice (or blueberry pomegranate juice)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
10 ounces of water

Directions:

1. Steep tea bags in 10 ounces of hot water for 3 minutes.
2. Dissolve brown sugar into tea.
3. Add the blueberry juice.
4. Allow tea to cool.
5. Pour into popsicle molds of your choice.
6. Freeze.
7. Enjoy.

Tips:

-If you have leftover tea mixture when making your popsicles simply freeze it in ice cube trays. These tasty ice cubes will be a refreshing addition to any iced tea or lemonade.
-If you do not have a fancy mold that will contain drips you can make your popsicles virtually drip free by dissolving a packet of unflavored gelatin into the hot tea mix before it cools.

Herbal tea popsicles are very refreshing. Go ahead and brew up your favorite tea and make some popsicles for yourself. Tea, it’s not just for drinking anymore.
